Core of the project

Devastating floods

In 2007, serious floods in the country’s Southwest caused tremendous damage to the agricultural capital, exposing the population to a situation of food insecurity. In the Solenzo Departement, these floods caused heavy damage, seriously compromising the survival of agriculture and livestock raising, households’ principal activities.

A solution for each difficulty

The project put in place now aims to durably rehabilitate and revive agricultural production in order to encourage the strengthening of food security and the development of a sustainable environment by encouraging producers in the implementation of irrigated cropland, and the expansion of the storage and transformation of cereals.

Main actions

 Training

Strengthen the competencies of local organizations in production and use of organic fertilizer, in production, conservation and commercialization of garden produce and in assisted natural regeneration.

 Production

Improve yields and productivity and rehabilitate socio-economic infrastructure by rehabilitating a rice paddy and several filter dikes, by constructing manure pits and by installing a rice husker.

 Environment

Restore and conserve vegetation cover by planting 2,000 trees and by creating school orchards.
