Heart of the project

Heavy constraints

In the Gnagna area in the East of Burkina Faso, the majority of the population lives off agriculture and livestock farming. However small, farmers are very isolated and are confronted to numerous obstacles that hinder their productivity: irregular rain, poor control on water, deterioration of natural resources and exhaustion on soils, difficult access to credit and financial support.

A solution for each difficulty

The project aims to reinvigorate production and farming to enable to families to improve their nutrition to develop their incomes durably, while encouraging the introduction of local innovating services responding to the demands of farmers in each step of their activities.

Main actions

Training

Train farmers to new techniques like fattening (practice consisting to feed the cattle with plants permitting a fast fattening); implantation of experimental fields to facilitate the innovation. Management committees of natural resources will be train too.

Transformation

Improve harvest conservation and transformation techniques by the warrantage, a guaranteed credit system on harvest stock and by the establishment of a multifunctional platform for the cereal transformation.

Agricultural sector

Facilitate the access to inputs (seeds, fertilizers, food for livestock, veterinary products) and multiply outlets for the commercialization of harvests and cattle.

Before the establishment of the multifunctional platform, women crushed the millet with mortars to get flour, which was tiresome. Some of them ranged 5 to 8 kilometers to grind their millet. Today, this preoccupation is solved.
